Manufacturer fault-analysis procedure
Manual fault definition
P2106 - Throttle Actuator Control System - Forced
limited power. Sensor fault.
limited power. Sensor fault.
Cautions and notes
NOTE: This code will be set if one or more of the PCM
sensor inputs is faulty and prevents correct operation of
the throttle actuation system.
sensor inputs is faulty and prevents correct operation of
the throttle actuation system.
Test sequence and decision path
1. Connect the WDS and check that P2106 is
logged. Note which PCM has recorded the fault.
Note all other fault codes and resolve all other
problems first. Return to this procedure only if
P2106 is logged again after clearing all other
faults.
2. Install the breakout box to the PCM logging the
P2106 code.
3. Using datalogger or direct measurement, check
the following inputs to the affected PCM:
MAF - 0.5v at idle, rising with engine revs
TP - APP1 4.4v at idle, falling to 0.7v as throttle
opens. APP2 0.7v, rising to 4.4v as throttle opens
CKP - regular pulses, 35 per engine rev then 1
missed pulse then repeat the sequence.
TSS - (Auto only) One pulse per engine rev.
OSS - (Auto only) One pulse per output shaft rev.
If no fault is detected, go to step 4.
If any fault is detected in these checks, service the
sensor as necessary. Clear the P2106 code and
run a KOER test to ensure that the problem is
resolved.
4. On the suspect engine bank, disconnect the air
trunking from the throttle body. Switch on the
ignition and observe the throttle movement whilst
a colleague presses and releases the throttle pedal
several times.
If the throttle plate does not accurately follow the
pedal movement, service the throttle body or
throttle motor circuit as necessary. Clear the
P2106 code and run a KOER test to ensure that
the problem is resolved.
If the throttle plate movement does accurately follow the pedal movement, the cause of the P2106
code is not present at this time. Clear the logged
DTCs and run an extended road test to find the
cause of the problem. If the problem recurs, repeat
this procedure from step 1 to resolve it.
