Manual fault definition
P1920 - This code indicates that the engine speed
has exceeded the maximum limit.
Note: This code may be logged if the vehicle has been
subject to any of the following conditions:
Excessive wheel slip on ice, snow, etc.
Excessive engine RPM in neutral
has exceeded the maximum limit.
Note: This code may be logged if the vehicle has been

CAUTION: This code may be generated in the
Primary Powertrain Control Module (PCM) only.
Check that you are working on the correct half of
the engine.
NOTE: This code is included to indicate that the
driver has reached the engine rev limit. There may
be a complaint of misfiring at high engine speed.
This code gives the dealer an explanation for the
customers perceived misfire when no misfire
codes are logged.
Primary Powertrain Control Module (PCM) only.
Check that you are working on the correct half of
the engine.
NOTE: This code is included to indicate that the
driver has reached the engine rev limit. There may

Test sequence and decision path
1. Connect the WDS. Record the logged DTCs and
then reset the PCM.
2. Check the vehicle history for evidence of hard
driving or similar operation of the engine to its
limits.
If there is evidence of operating the vehicle to its
limits, reset the PCM and run the engine. Briefly
accelerate the engine to about 6000 rpm and let
it return to idle. Accelerate the engine to about
6000 rpm again and let it return to idle.
Check for logged DTCs.
If P1920 is not logged again, there is no evident
engine fault. Testing is complete.
Open the corresponding manual page for wiring diagrams and figures
then reset the PCM.
2. Check the vehicle history for evidence of hard
