P1700 - Transmission Indterminate Failure (Failed
to Neutral).

Cautions and notes

NOTE: This fault indicates a problem detected by the
watchdog timer in the TCM. The TCM will automatically disengage any selected gear, i.e. the TCM will
fail-safe to neutral to protect the vehicle occupants.

Test sequence and decision path

1. Connect the WDS and record all logged DTCs.
Ensure that P1700 is logged.

2. Clear the P1700 code. Switch the ignition off and
then on again.
Run a road test including driving in all gears. Stop
the test and check any logged DTCs.
If P1700 is logged again, go to step 3.
If P1700 is not logged again, repeat the
ignitionoff/on check several times to ensure that
the problem is resolved.

3. Clear all logged DTCs.

4. Using the WDS and the latest disc, reflash the
TCM. Repeat the ignition on self tests. Check if
P1700 is logged.
If P1700 is not logged again, run a road test
including driving in all gears. Stop the test and
check any logged DTCs.
If P1700 is logged again, replace the Mechatronic
Unit. Run a road test again, including driving in
all gears to check the new mechatronic unit. Stop
the test and check any logged DTCs to ensure that
the problem is resolved.
