Cautions and notes
NOTE: DTC P1101 could be generated by a low charge
battery. Check the battery condition and service if necessary.
CAUTION: This code may be generated in the
Primary or Secondary Powertrain Control Module
(PCM). Check that you are working on the correct
half of the engine.

Test sequence and decision path
1. Connect the WDS or Scan Tool. Check that fault
code P1101 is present
2. Check the air filter for correct fitting. Check all
ducting for blockage or leaks (including the
crankcase ventilation system). Service or repair as
necessary.
3. Check the MAF sensor and PCM connectors for
damaged pins, poor connection, etc.
If no fault is detected, go to step 4.
If any fault is detected, service as necessary. Reset
the PCM and run a KOER test to ensure that the
problem is resolved.
4. Key on engine running. Using the datalogger,
read the MAF signal level with the engine at idle.
Increase engine speed to 1500-2000 and allow it
to return to idle.
If the signal level remains inside the range 0.39 -
1.90 volts at idle, go to step 6.
If the signal level goes outside the range 0.39 -
1.90 volts at idle, go to step 5.
5. Ignition off. Check for short circuit from +12V
power circuits KAPWR, VBatt, VIGN, BVREF to
primary PCM pin C0634-9 or secondary PCM pin
C0637-9.
If no circuit fault is identified, replace the MAF
sensor, clear the P1101 code and retest to ensure
that the problem is resolved.
If a circuit fault is identified, service the affected
circuit as necessary. Clear the P1101 code and
retest to ensure that the problem is resolved.
6. Key off. Disconnect the PCM and inspect the connector for loose, damaged pins. Service as necessary.
Connect the PCM break-out box. Reconnect the
PCM. Connect a multimeter between the following pins:
PCM MAF Signal
Signal Return
Primary EM-A/31 EM-A/38
Secondary EM-A/31 EM-A/38
Key on engine running. Shake, bend sections of
the harness from the MAF sensor to the PCM
whilst monitoring the MAF signal level.
If the MAF signal level goes outside the range
0.39 - 1.90 volts at idle, isolate and repair the
harness fault. Reconnect all components. Reset
the PCM and run the KOER test to ensure that the
problem is resolved.
If the MAF signal level remains in the range 0.39 -
1.90 volts at idle, unable to reproduce the fault at
this time.
