Test sequence and decision path
1. Connect the WDS and check that P0562 or
P0563 is logged.
2. Monitor the VBATT signal at the underbonnet
fusebox (most easily checked at relay 1 base with
the relay removed). The voltage would normally
be in the range 12.5 - 13.5 volts.
If VBATT is in the normal range, go to step 3.
If the VBATT signal is below 12.5 volts, carry out
the quick charge and battery condition check.
Clear the P0562 code and run a KOER test to
ensure that the problem is resolved.
3. Install the breakout box to the suspect PCM and
monitor the VBATT signal. If the signal is outside
the range 12.5 - 13.5 volts, service the VBATT circuit between the underbonnet fusebox and the
PCM. Clear the P0562 code and run a KOER test
to ensure that the problem is resolved.
Quick Check - Battery and Battery Charging
Battery - Measure battery voltage from the jump
start terminal to chassis ground. If less than 12.5
volts, suspect a defective battery. Service/replace
the battery as necessary and retest for a P0562
condition. If above 12.5 volts, the battery is serviceable, go to the charging check.
Charging - Run the engine at 2000 rpm with the
headlamps switched on. Charge voltage measured from the jump start terminal to chassis
ground should be about 13.8 volts. If significantly
below 13.8 volts, service the charging system and
then retest for a P0562 condition. If at 13.8 volts,
the charging system is serviceable.
