NOTE: During the KOER test, the idle speed is briefly
increased to over 1300 rpm to ensure that the PCMs
have full control.

Test sequence and decision path
1. Run the engine and observe the idle speed.
The idle speed should be stable within the range
1200 rpm cold, falling to 850 rpm when fully
warmed up.
2. Connect the WDS and note all logged DTCs.
3. If any of codes P0122, 0123, 0124, 0222, 0223,
or 0224 (throttle position sensor codes) are
logged, analyse these problems first and return to
this procedure if any of P0505/0506/0507 are
logged again without other TP codes.
4. Set the datalogger to monitor all throttle position
signals on both engine banks.
Run the engine and record the throttle positions
whilst increasing and decreasing engine speed.
Stop the engine and review the throttle position
record.
If there is any significant difference between the
throttle position signals, suspect the throttle
assembly with the widest throttle signal variation
or with the most unstable signal level.
5. Remove the affected throttle assembly and check
for contamination or mechanical defects.
If contamination is detected, clean the assembly
as necessary and refit. Clear all DTCs and run a
KOER test to ensure that the problem is resolved.
If no contamination is detected, go to step 5
6. Refit the throttle assembly but do not refit the air
trunking.
Key on. Observe the suspect throttle butterfly
whilst a colleague operates the throttle pedal.
If the throttle does not faithfully follow the pedal
movement, replace the throttle assembly. Clear
the P0505/0506/0507 codes Run a KOER test to
ensure that the problem is resolved.
If the throttle pedal does faithfully follow the
pedal movement, the cause of the fault is not
present at this time and testing is complete.
