P0461 - Fuel level sensor circuit range or performance.
Test sequence and decision path
1. Check the resistance of the fuel level sensor at the
Central Electronic Module. Check between pins
C0587-7 and C0587-5.
The resistance should be in the range 10 Ω tank
full to 204Ω tank empty.
If the resistance is in range and stable, go to step
2. If the resistance is out of range, check continuity
of the sensor wiring between the central electronic module and fuel tank connector pins
C0114-2 and C0114-5 If continuity is good,
replace the fuel level sensor. Clear the P0461
code and run a KOER test to ensure that the problem is resolved.
2. Arrange a break-out lead from connector C0587
pins 7 and 8. Use an analogue meter to monitor
the fuel level signal on the break-out lead during
a road test. Include some driving over ‘bumpy’
surfaces and around tight turns.
3. If the signal is stable and in-range, the cause of
the P0461 is not present at this time and testing is
complete.
If the signal is unstable, recheck continuity of the
sensor wiring and service as necessary Clear the
P0461 code and run a road test to ensure that the
problem is resolved.
