What Aston Martin code P0454 means

Evaporative Emission System Pressure Sensor/Switch Intermittent Input

DB9 preliminary diagnostic manual · section 2-102

Manufacturer fault-analysis procedure

Manual fault definition

P0454 - This code indicates fuel tank pressure signal intermittent.

Cautions and notes

NOTE: The fuel tank pressure transducer emits a voltage
signal in the range 2.4-2.8 volts at atmospheric pressure.

Test sequence and decision path

1. Remove the fuel filler cap (fuel tank pressure at
atmospheric). Connect the WDS and turn on the
ignition. Monitor the fuel tank pressure signal
(Primary PCM) using the datalogger. The voltage
should read 2.4 - 2.8 volts.
If the fuel tank pressure signal does read 2.4 - 2.8
volts at atmospheric pressure, the sensor reading
is in specification, go to step 5.
If the fuel tank pressure reads above the range 2.4
- 2.8 volts at atmospheric pressure, go to step 2.

2. Key off. Check for the following:
Damaged sensor or connector or wiring
If any defect is identified, service as necessary
and run the KOEO test to ensure that the problem
is resolved.
If no defect is identified, go to step 3.

3. Disconnect the sensor. Key on. Check for short
circuit to VPWR at the sensor connector. Measure
from sensor harness connector pin 3 (fuel tank
pressure signal) to chassis ground and from sensor harness connector pin 1 (+5 volt reference
supply) to chassis ground.
If either reading indicates approximately +12V,
there is a short circuit to VBatt. Go to step 4.

4. Key off. Disconnect the PCM and check for short
circuit from the sensor wiring to +12 volts VBatt
at PCM harness connector.
If a short circuit is identified, repair the wiring as
necessary, reconnect the sensor and PCM. Run
the KOEO test again to ensure that the problem is
resolved.
If no short circuit in the wiring is detected, contact Aston Martin Technical Support.

5. WARNING: Do not exceed the maximum pressure specified in this step. Excessive pressure will
cause damage in the fuel system.

Disconnect the hose from the canister vent valve
to atmosphere. Connect a pressure pump to the
hose.
Pump a pressure of no more than 14 inches of
water (34.8 kPa) into the fuel system whilst monitoring the fuel tank pressure signal.
If the fuel tank pressure signal changes in
response to the applied pressure, the sensor is
serviceable. Analyse the problem for a jammed
canister vent valve using the P0446 procedure.
Run the KOEO test to ensure that the problem is
resolved.
