P0320 - Ignition engine speed input circuit
Cautions and notes
NOTE: The basic ignition timing is derived from the
crankshaft position sensor signal (CKP). This signal is
processed in the ignition control circuits to provide the
PIP (Profile Ignition Pickup) signal. The PIP signal
pulses at half engine speed with pulse lead edges rising
at 10° before top dead centre. Final ignition timing will
be advanced or retarded from this 10°BTDC position as
necessary. If the PIP signal is erratic, a P0320 code will
be logged.

Test sequence and decision path
1. Connect the WDS and check that P0320 is
logged. Note which PCM is recording the fault.
2. Start the engine and allow the KOER terst to complete. On completion of the KOER test, use datalogger to record both crank position signals whilst
the engine is running.
Check the recorded data, comparing the two CKP
signals.
If at any constant engine speed, the signal pulse
widths differ by more than 25%, the crank sensor
providing the unstable signal is suspect.
3. Access the crankshaft position sensors. Check
both sensors for correct mounting and security.
If both sensors are correctly mounted, go to step
4. If either sensor mounting is loose, secure the sensor. Clear the P0320 code. Repeat the KOER test
and the CKP signal comparison to ensure that the
problem is resolved.
4. Check the security and condition of the CKP sensor connector.
If any electrical fault is detected, service the wiring as necessary. Clear the P0320 code and rerun
the KOER test to ensure that the problem is
resolved.
If no electrical fault is detected, contact Aston
Martin Technical Support.
Open the corresponding manual page for wiring diagrams and figures
